This Works Morning Expert Skincare range review

So I was luckily invited to the Sephora Thailand Spring 19 Press Event, where I got a peek at some new items coming to Sephora. Amongst many skincare brands, Thisworks was also there to showcase their new Morning Expert Range.

This range consists of 3 items, the Vitamin C Power Mask, the Hyaluronic Serum, and the Morning Expert Open Eyes (from left to right).

Of the 3 items launching, I was given 2 to try, the mask and the serum, which I will review here.

This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum and Vitamin C Power Mask

First up is the Hyaluronic Mask. OK I know this one is named as a mask, but to me it feels more like a face scrub. I’ll tell you why later.

This Works Morning Expert Vitamin C Power Mask

First of all, let’s take a look at the brand’s description of this mask:

An invigorating exfoliating mask with 10% Vitamin C and Jojoba to smooth, cleanse and vitalise lack-lustre skin.

Exchange your morning cleanse for an intensive treatment to renew and revitalize all skin types

Water activated Vitamin C granules exfoliate away dullness, reduce uneven skin tone and tackle signs of premature ageing whilst Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oil nourish and cleanse

Kick start your day with a glow-boosting facial to brighten, soften and improve skin clarity

This product uses airless technology packaging that will require pumping prior to use for the product to start dispensing. This ensures our formulations remain air-tight for optimum efficacy.

Massage into dry skin on face and neck, dampen fingers and continue to massage skin to activate Vitamin C for 1 minute. Can be left on for up to 10 minutes for a more intensive action. Rinse off thoroughly.

The texture of the mask is gel-like with micro beads. You probably can’t see the beads clearly, but they are there. This has a really aromatic fruity scent that leans something like orange? (just like Thisworks other products which has really good aroma vibes to them).

Once scrubbed, it turns a tiny bit whitish and now you can see the beads more clearly.

Now the reason I feel like this works better as a scrub is because once I start scrubbing my skin, at most I can do it for 1 minute. Then I had to rinse it off. It feels really weird leaving it on (for up to 10 mins as the brand suggested). It’s a bit greasy and it feels like you leave on a cleanser without washing it off. Maybe it will work as a mask for some people, but to me its like washing your face and not rinsing off the cleanser. I only use this as a face scrub.

This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum

OK next is the Hyaluronic Sreum. This is supposed to be used in the morning under makeup.

A powerful Superblend of wheat-based Hyaluronic Acid to plump and Vitamin C to help firm, tighten smooth and improve skin appearance

For skin that is ready for your day, your way. Massage into skin on face & neck each morning to maximise plumping effect.

The texture of this is a light gel that dries down pretty fast. It has the same aromatic scent as the mask.

However, I find one problem with it. After I apply this serum to my skin and put makeup on afterwards, it flakes. So whenever I use this before my makeup, I have to be careful not to rub my skin too much. Pretty much I’m left with no choice but to use a cushion foundation (which I don’t rub, but pat on my skin).

This really limits my choice of foundation I use, because even using a foundation brush still make it flake slightly. TO be honest I’m not sure if the people at Thisworks have tried this under makeup before they launched it.

So that is it for the two items that I got too try. Lastly there is the Open Eyes (eye detox) which I did not receive but was able to check out at the press event. Personally, I don’t really have any eye problems so I wasn’t really sure how effective this was.
