Glow Recipe Part 1: Watermelon

Hello guys I thin it’s time I write about one of my favourite skincare brands, Glow Recipe! This brand makes skincare so much more fun! And also smells amazing too!

The brand markets itself as a Korean skincare brand, but this is not even available in Korea. I believe it is more like a korean skincare inspired brand/ Korean owned brand rather than a brand that sells to Korean people in Korea. Personally I still consider this an American brand.

Let’s look at the brand’s philosophy:

I started following them on instagram and bought item by item until now my collection has grown to include 5 items.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

My first ever product was the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. This is supposed to be used as the last step before bed, but sometimes I used it as the ONLY step (cause I’m lazy). You just slap it on and it dries down pretty fast so it doesn’t smear my pillows – it’s a good thing.

Here’s the brand’s description:

I didn’t find any fruit chunks in my tub though.

Key Ingredients:

Watermelon -Amino-rich watermelon extract intensely hydrates, soothes and fights free radical damage to ward off fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

Hyaluronic Acid - Instantly quench thirsty skin with hyaluronic acid. This holy grail hydrator retains 1000 times its weight in water to breathe new life to dry, rough skin.

AHA - Gentle chemical exfoliators that buff away dead skin, smooth fine lines, soften texture, diminish dark spots, and clarify pores. In other words, they help your skin live its best life.

Pumpkin Extract - Rich in antioxidants that both repair skin and defend it against damage-causing free radicals.

Free Of: Parabens, Mineral Oil, Sulfates, Phthalates, Synthetic Dyes. Vegan. Cruelty-free.

One thing of caution, you need to use the spatula to mix the gel before using because it is part oil and part gel and the oil will float to the top. If you don’t mix it up first, you will end up scooping up just the oil and it is not a pleasant feeling to have just that oil on your face (I know because I made that mistake as well). These days instead of mixing I just shake the whole thing before using.

Another thing of note is the scent. I’m a fan of watermelon scents, but this one has a VERY heavy scent, so I think you should try it out before buying. I’m a huge perfume nerd, and I still find this scent being a bit too overwhelming, and that’s saying something.

My second purchase was the Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer.

Here’s the brand’s description: 90% of this silky glow moisturizer is spiked with vitamin and amino acid-rich watermelon extract, plumping hyaluronic acid, and soothing botanicals like peony and jasmine extracts. This 100% oil free cooling gel-emulsion absorbs instantly to seal in hydration and prep skin for the day ahead. Antioxidants guard against free radicals and repair damaged cells along the way. Used morning and night, it drenches skin in luscious, long-lasting moisture.

This also has a watermelon scent like the glow mask, but this is a different formula for the mask. This moisturizer is gel-like, not oily, and to me is better suited for the morning. I use this in the morning before I put on my makeup (the heavy scent also wakes me up too lol). It is absorbed quickly and leaves my skin feeling fresh. This one I bought out of curiosity and just because I wanted to complete the collection haha. It’s a nice mist, with a bit of oil mixed in (similar to the glow mask) and freshen up my skin decently. It has a different scent to the glow mask and the pink juice moisturizer though. I feel like this has a more realistic watermelon scent . It smells exactly like when you eat a watermelon, not those synhetic ones.

I like using this right after I wash my face, so it doesn’t feel too dry. This is one of the finest face mists I own. I don’t feel the water flecks/drops hitting my skin at all. It almost feels like you walking through a humidifier. I love that part because then it goes on evenly across my face and doesn’t disrupt makeup (when I wear makeup).

But I have way too many face mists right now, and my top choice is still the Skin Inc Pure Serum Face Mist.
