Glamglow Charcoal Star Potion & Super Toner review

I was luckily invited to the Sephora Thailand Spring 19 Press Event, where I got to explore some new launched from brands. And luckily, I received the new Glamglow Starpotion Liquid Clarifying oil to try for myself. I also borrowed the Super Toner from a good friend of mine to try, and so I will review both.

First up is the Super Toner. I have bad news for you guys.

Well let’s first start with the official description :

Well, what do I say. This toner has alcohol. And since I’m allergic to alcohol, I didn’t want to try it. But for reviewing purposes, I gave it one try - and I wish I hadn’t. It stings so bad from the first swipe on my cheek. I think it’s the overall combination of the acids and alcohol that works together to ruin my skin lol.

So I tried it on my hand instead. It doesn’t sting, but I still don’t like it. It has a very strong mint/alcohol small, like something from the hospital. I wouldn’t want to use it anywhere on my body. My friend also used it, but since she isn’t allergic to alcohol, it doesn’t sting her face. However she complained that it made her break out so bad. So that’s two bad experiences out of two, so I really suggest trying it out in person before buying it.

As for the shimmers, I believe they are only added to make the bottle look pretty. They aren’t noticeable on the skin.

Glam Glow STARPOTION™ Liquid Charcoal Clarifying Oil

Next, the STARPOTION™ Liquid Charcoal Clarifying Oil. This is a face oil, with charcoal as the main ingredient.

Let’s see the official description first: This powerful liquid charcoal oil clarifies the complexion and protects skin from pollution with antioxidants while it nourishes. With two types of charcoal, Turmeric and Aloe Vera TEAOXI®, Vitamin C, Salicylic Acid, and oleic acid-rich oils, it transforms from black to clear to smooth and protect. Ideal for use day or night and perfect after any GLAMGLOW® treatment.

How to use: Shake well before use. Apply 2-3 drops to freshly cleansed face and neck every morning and/or night. Massage evenly in circular motions. Follow with moisturizer if desired. Perfect after any GLAMGLOW® mud treatment.

The texture of the oil is like any other face oil, with the only difference being the charcoal color. The brand says it the color won’t stay after it’s blended into skin. I aggree with that, the black tint isn’t a problem.

However, my problem with it is the scent. I know the scent doesn’t affect the performance of the oil, but this has a weird smell. Not sure how to describe it, but to me it smells like seaweed (like seaweed snacks). I’m quite picky with scents, and I fail to reach for products that don’t satisfy my nose buds. Therefore, I have not used this and will probably give it to someone else. Can’t comment on the results of the oil (since I won’t get to use it on a regular basis).

So that’s it for my review of the two items. Not good news. I liked neither product. Does anyone like these, and why? Please comment in the comments below, I want to know what I”m missing!
