Tomford Shade And Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation SPF 50/PA++++ Cushion Compact Review and swatches of all shades
This is my second Tom Ford Cushion, the first being the Tom Ford Traceless Touch Cushion, which I’m completely obsessed with. I had already gone through 2 refills and will continue to use it.
Now that Tom Ford has decised to come out with a new Cushion, of course I had to give it a try. The shade and illuminate cushion is housed in a gorgeous golden compact (which has to be purchased separately), and I can’t believe Tom Ford can manage to make sth even prettier than the Traceless cushion. Tomford also came out with a foundation in the same name as well, and I also bought it, review below.
I tried to find the brand’s official description on the Tom Ford website, but there were no cushions anywhere. I am assuming that they are Asia exclusive.
Below is the description I found from the Lane Crawford website:
Tom Ford's Shade and Illuminate Foundation Soft Radiance Cushion Compact plays with light and shadow to create the appearance of perfect skin with enhanced natural features. A blend of phospholipids and Vitamin E mimic the skin’s natural barrier with moisturising and lightweight, breathable protection. Skin is perfected with a flawless, radiant finish. Packaged in a luxe, refillable gold-tone cushion compact, the complexion-perfecting formula softly highlights to enhance natural features and brighten skin for a natural, soft-focus look. Enriched with argireline peptide and light-diffusing elastomers, the hybrid skincare and foundation help to blur and fill fine lines and wrinkles for the look of pore-less, even skin tone.

I feel like the Shade&Illuminate cushion is much more pigmented than the old Traceless cushion and it has more sunscreen. I made a mistake of dipping the sponge in too deep and ended up applying much more than needed when I tried it at the counter. You only need just a little bit and that’s enough. It’s definitely got more coverage than the Traceless, which is more on the natural side.
I also did swatches of all the shades at the Tom Ford counter, in case you are all quarantined and can’t go out to choose your shade. My local counter had 8 shades, mostly for Asian skintones.
I also noted that the shades run lighter than other Tom Ford foundations. I usually wear the shade Buff, but with this cushion I had to go one shade darker to Linen.
The first set of shades are
0.3 Ivory Silk
1.1 Warm Sand
1.3 Nude Ivory
2.0 Buff
I posted two photos below in different lighting.
And here is how they looked once blended.
Next set are
2.5 Linen
4.0 Fawn
5.5 Bisque
6.5 Sable
And here is how they look blended. I hope this blog was useful!
