Abyssian Haircare

Hey everyone, let me introduce you to me new Haircare Line obsession! Abyssian Haircare. I was introduced to Abyssian at the Spring 19 Sephora Event, where I got to talk to the people at Abyssian about their brand. One of the most unique aspects of this brand is its eco-friendly policies. With every product purchased, they plant a tree!

At Abyssian, plants are at the centre of all things important: from the communities growing, harvesting and extracting them sustainably, to our formulas in which they are the heart and soul. The expertise of the laboratories we work with helped to craft products as beautiful on the inside than on the outside.

After discovering the precious benefits of the Abyssinian seed extract, a pure oil used by African women for centuries, our botanical experts have strived to research the best extracts to combine it with and answer our customers’ main hair concern: healthy and beautiful hair.

While we aim at producing the most natural products possible, we also have to select some ingredients for the efficacy or the protection they bring to the formulation. We however assess each one and challenge it towards the Environment Working Group’s database to ensure absolute safety. Our 8-free chart also guarantees full transparency on what you are buying by checking the icons for every product.

The main ingredient is also Abyssian Oil, which to be honest I’ve never heard before in my life. However, once I got to know about it, I knew I needed to try it. Apparently its lighter than Argan oil (which I’ve been using this whole time) and so it won’t weigh down hair.

Abyssinian oil partly owes its haircare benefits to its uncommon fatty acid profile with a content of over 60% of C22 Erucic acid, a very long chain fatty acid, and high contents of Omega-9 (Oleic) and Omega-6 (Linoleic) fatty acids. It also holds high contents of tocopherols (vitamin E), and phytosterols which help with antioxidative stress as well as promote cell renewal.

The essential fatty acids contained in the oil comprise a greater proportion of the lipid layer and contribute to hair's elasticity and aid ceramides in keeping the cuticle scales attached to the hair shaft. C22 in particular can loosen up lipid membranes and make them more fluid and elastic, increasing both the hair’s resistance and its softness.

When used on the scalp, it facilitates the flowing off of natural surface fats of the skin, also helping it to balance the production of sebum. Abyssinian oil is also known to strengthen the natural barrier function of the skin and reduce trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) by leaving a thin protective film.

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond our ingredients. We strive to provide continual support to the environments and people who harvest and provide us with our core ingredients - plants.

We are proud to be a part of Eden Reforestation Projects, a global business community that’s inspiring positive change in our world through its philosophy of 'Everything lives where trees live'. Every time you purchase a product from Abyssian Haircare, Eden Projects will plant a Mangrove tree in the Biak Island and West Java regions of Indonesia.

Eden Projects hire local villagers to plant trees. This gives them a decent income so they can provide for their families again. As the reforestation effort goes on, healthy forests begin to emerge and all the negative effects of deforestation begin to disappear.

So now that you know more about this brand, let’s take a look at the products I bought.

Abyssian Haircare Abyssian Oil Shampoo

I really really really love this shampoo. Before this I never strayed away from my favourite shampoo Lush Rehab, but this shampoo has now secured a place on my holy grail hair shelf.

First, I love the scent. It smells refreshing and natural, with a bit of sweetness in it. I feel like a spa day everytime I wash my hair. It is that nice.

Second, I can feel that is it moisturizing, and creamy. It just feels so good to wash hair with this. Don’t know how I can explain this any better, but I already feel my hair being repaired while using this haha. Maybe its the placebo effect?

And a closer look at the texture of this shampoo. It’s not as watery as it looks. And it goes really well with the Abyssian Oil conditioner.

This has the same scent as the shampoo. Refreshing and sweet and relaxing. It is creamy, but not that thick. My hair feels amazing after using this.

Next, my favourite product out of all the items I tried! The Abyssian Hair Serum.

Abyssinian Oil Hair Serum

Abyssinian Oil Hair Serum

The texture is much lighter than argan oil (which I have been using to date), and this it doens’t weigh down my hair like argan oil does (although I won’t refute the benefits of argan oil). I wash my hair every other day, and by day 2 my hair is always flat, but after I used Abbysian oil, it has been fluffier and bouncier. I totally recommend this for people who want their hair to be more bouncy rather than heavy.

I have used one other hair oil before, which is the Three Scalp Oil (which I love) so I decided to try this as well. I use it before I wash my hair (since I don’t want oiliness on my scalp after I wash my hair). And I am satisfied. my scalp feels moisturized and detoxed. I leave it on for about 10-15 minutes.

I also use this sometimes on my damp hair before I dry my hair as well. So versatile!

And lastly are the two “pamper” products that are a bit for special occasions. The Sunday Detox shampoo and the Abyssian Oil Hair Mask.

And lastly, the Abyssian Oil Hair MAsk.

Abyssian Hair Mask

Abyssian Hair Mask

Abyssian Hair Mask

To me, this is a more concentrated version of the Abyssian Oil Conditioner. The paste is thick and it gives you the feeling of extra nourishment and treatment. It has the same scent as the other Abyssian Oil haircare line. This little tub is a bit pricy, so to me this is for special occasions only. If you think it is too expensive, the Conditioner will work fine as a replacement.

And that is it guys, I hope you love this brand as much as I do!
