I was luckily invited to the Sephora Thailand Spring19 Press Event, where I got to try out some new products launching this Spring. This blog will be about the Cover FX Super Primers.

There are 4 new reformulated face primers launching, each with its own benefits. The four included the Gripping Primer, the Blurring Primer, the Mattifying Primer, and the the Dewy Skin Primer.

The one I was given from the event was the Dewy Skin Primer

OK I have to say that out of all the new primers launching, I was most interested in this one. When I popped into the booth to take a look, the CoverFX people were most excited about this one. They claimed that it could achieve the dewy glow, even after you apply foundation, the dewiness will still show up.

I tried the primer alone on my arm, and I without foundation, and it was really dewy and shiny. So naturally I wanted to see how it worked with foundation. Luckily, I was given this tube in my press kit so my wish really came true. I will really get to use this primer for real!

Before I tell you the outcome, lets begin with the basics.

Below is the official description from the website:

A rich primer that nourishes and hydrates skin and imparts an instant dewy finish.

Key Benefits:

+ Hydrating - Emollients and humectants provide rich hydration
+ Dewy Finish - Provides instant radiance and an all-over hydrated glow

Here’s how the website suggest you use it:

Apply evenly with fingertips to clean, moisturized skin. Use under makeup for flawless application and long-wear, or alone for a boost of all-day hydration.

Pro-Tip: For the most flawless application, apply your primer first to the high points of the face - bridge of the nose, top of the cheek bones, center of the forehead - and blend outwards. Your foundation will thank you for it!

The primer is a clear “gel” that is quite slippery. Although it feels slippery on my skin, it does not wash off (I know, cause I tried to wash it off with water lol). You will need to use a remover to remove this.

So I have told you before that when I tried it at the press event on my arm, it was pretty dewy and shiny (as seen in the picture below). And it stays like this! I mean I feel like it doesn’t really dry down and kind of messed up the foundation I tried to put on top. It also feels greasy on my skin. I ended washing all of it off. However, I did try foundation over the primer on my arm. The dewiness shines through the foundation, but I feel like it is because the primer doesn’t dry up . . .

Bottom line is this does not work for me at all. It might suit other people with dry skin, but it feels terrible on my combination skin (and there’s no chance for oily skin gals to use this. You’ll end up as an oil slick).

I think I would have been better off with any of the other primers. The Gripping and Mattifying one I would love to try. Too bad the one I got was not suitable for me skin.

Now included in the range is also the Water Cloud Primer, though I’m not sure it wasn’t in the promo lineup. I got this to try from a friend, and I love it much more than the Dewy Skin Primer.

The texture is gel-like rather moose-like that the brand claims. It’s slightly cooling and does make my skin refreshed like it claims. It does help make my skin smoother for make up application (duh, its a primer and that’s what it does). It dries down pretty fast (unlike the Dewy primer that doesn’t dry down at all). However, I can’t rub my foundation with my fingers too hard, or it’ll flake. So that’s one thing I don’t like about it ( I prefer to blend my foundation as long as I want). As for the anti-pollution and blue light protection, I have no method to prove if it works as claimed.

So that’s my opinion of the two primers. They are not wow-ing, and I suggest you try them before buying.

Also in the new launch are the CoverFX Booster Drops, each with its own benefits. There are drops for mattyfying, antioxidant, SPF, and brightening. You mix them in your foundation or skincare. These sound interesting. I would really like to try them if i have the chance.
