Tomford Lip Lacquer Luxe Matte and Lip Luxe Vinyl swatches

So Tomford yet again released a lip product in such luxe packaging, and I ran straight to the counter when I heard these were making a debut. There are 10 matte lipsticks, and 10 glosses. From what I was told, the matte formula is a repackage of their old liquid lipstick, although there are new shades. I really loved Universal Appeal from their old packaging, and so I was really keen to try these new shades.

Here’s the description of the Lip Lacquer Luxe Matte

I will devide into batches of 5 shades, first 5 are the lighter shades, and the other 5 are darker shades.

First up is 01 Darling

I tried it on, and I have to say this is my favourite shade out of all of them. It’s such a natural nude shade that feels super comfortable on my lips.

Next is 02 Quiver

This one leans a tiny bit towards plum.

And 03 Lark.

This one I love as well. It’s my go-to shade for anywhere, the office or even on weekends. This shade is now on my wishlist.

And then 04 Insouciant and 05 Pussycat which was also available in the old formula. I think the shade hasn’t changed, but the formula did.

OK after trying them on, I went for a walk. What I noticed was this: This formula doesn’t fully dry down on my lips. The old formula completely dried and was transfer proof, but this one transferred. The description says they are “ CONCENTRATED PIGMENTS IN ULTRA-CUSHION-LIKE EMOLLIENTS, CREATING SMOOTH, SECOND-SKIN FILM ON LIPS”. I agree with the “cushion-like” part. They feel cushion-y, and are not matte, and are comfortable on the lips. However, I won’t say this is your typical liquid lipstick, its still not transfer-proof. But I love them! I don’t like those drying type anymore. I love this kind of matte!

OK the next lot are the darker shades.

The first two are 06 Habitual and 07 Jaguar. I really like Habitual, and I super regret not trying it on. I will definitely try it on the next time I visit the Tomford counter. As for Jaguar, it is a bright orange coral, super striking.

Next is 08 Overpower. This is a classic bright red that leans towards orange - imagine Wild Ginger lipstick. This looked amazing in the swatches, and so I tried it on.

It is such a classic shade. The Tomford makeup artist said this shade is popular among Chinese tourists, and I totally understand why.

And the last two are 09 Amaranth and 10 Beau Jolais. Amaranth is very similar to Over Power, but it leans more fuchsia rather than orange. And Beau Jolais is a dark blackberry.

I have noticed a glitch with these lippies though. If you notice from my closeup photos, you may spot that the applicator is kind of messy and ripped (even though these have been on display for just a few days). The makeup artist says he feels like the applicator was too big, and it’s hard to pull it out of the tube (I noticed that too when I was doing the swathes). I think the brand will need to fix this for future releases.

Unfortunately, the Tomford counter only had 5 testers out of 10 shades, and they’re not sure when the other 5 will arrive. So i did swatches of the 5 that they had.

Softcore is now on my wishlist. Such a gorgeous nude.

Unzip is a shocking pink.

Knockout is an orange-red, like Wild Ginger Lipstick. I can totally imaging myself wearing this shade on holidays.

Intimidate is THE classic red. Red carpet red. Super classy.

And lastly is Infiltrate, which I was surprised to find that I like! I mean look at that purple! I definitely will not wear that shade on a normal basis, but man it looks so good! If you wear purple lipsticks, this is a must! I imagine it would look great on dark skin too.

They are SUPER pigmented like in the description that they are a “LIQUID LIPSTICK IN A DECADENT, HIGH-SHINE VINYL FORMULA”. Yes they are basically lipsticks in a high shine formula. I have to say they are quite similar to Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip High Shine.

I think these are similar to their Patent Lip Polish, but Patent Lip is more gel-like. You can read more at the link below.
