Tom Ford Eye Quad additions for 2019: Swatches and my picks
So I was able to visit the Tom Ford counter the other day and got to try the new Eye Quads. I was totally uninterested when I saw the photo online, but I thought I’d swatch them just in case. I ended up swatching all of them, and many surprised me. The shades may look difficult to use, but it turns out some quads are more user friendly than I thought.
Two caught my eye, the 24 Photosynthesex and 23 African Violet. From the palette it looks like a weird combination right? But I decided to try them on and they look amazing! Read on for full details.
The first one is 22 Supernouveau – This one seemed very basic to me. As in, you can find these shades anywhere so you don’t really have to pay this much from Tom Ford. That being said, the shades are really easy to use and will work for anyone.
Next is 23 African Violet – This one I did not like it at all from the first looks of it online. I always shy away from oranges and purples so this wasn’t on my mind at all.
BUT The makeup artist convinced me to try it on, lightly at first. It gave a Korean cute look which I think was not bad at all. So I told him to try applying it fully, and the result was pretty amazing. The purple somehow complimented the orange and the glitter shade helps the most. I always say Tom Ford’s glitters shades are the best out there, and this shade is no exception. Btw, I apologize for my super unkempt brow. Oh, and focus on just my left eye will you? The other side is coming.
I’m so sorry that my photos don’t do the shade justice at all. In reality the glitter shade is too beautiful to describe.
Here are arm swatches.
Next, 24 Photosynthesex – This is the most interesting palette out of all of them. I always gravitate towards greens and browns, so this was the palette that I wanted to try the most. The BA was actually quite surprised because he said this was the most difficult to use out of all the palettes. But we tried it on anyways.
Below is the photo of me wearing Photosynthesex. Again, apologies for the super bad skin and unkempt brows. I was quite busy and did not have time to look after myself much. Again apologies for that.
And I love the result so freaking bad! I mean that bluish glitter shade is life. On my yellow skin, it turns out greenish-blue, oh god it’s just MY kinda of color. I immediately decided I wanted to buy this palette, but unfortunately its sold out. I will wait and see if they will restock.
Below are arm swatches. That bottom glitter shade is killing me!
So I went to the counter again and it’s now in stock so I brought it home with me. Below is the detailed review and swatches of Photosynthesex that I did at home, and in sunlight. It’s even prettier than at the counter!
Next is 25 Pretty Baby – This one was the prettiest when swatches. Seriously the photos don’t do them justice. And that bottom glitter shade – gahhhh I wanted it. I also tried it on my lids, but like I said my yellow skin don’t pair up well with purple palettes. I ended up looking like something hit me in the eye. But I think those of you who fair well with purple shades will look stunning in this!
Next 26 Leopard Sun – This was just too yellow and red for my liking. The name is accurate though, it really is leopard and sun. This palette has all shimmer shades. And again, the photos don’t do them justice. They really are super pretty – just not for me.
Now another favourite of mine, 27 Virgin Orchid – This one I really liked! It’s one of the few quads that I think “ah this one I can definitely see myself buying”. It’s a shade you can wear any day and anytime. Gives a feminine look, but you can build it up to be dramatic as well. This palette is also all shimmer shades. The shimmers are really find and are just so perfect.
I ended up buying this palette off a friend who didn’t want it anymore, and I was able to do swatches of it in sunlight. It looks much more stunning and you can see the shimmers. Like I said, the photos under artificial light don’t do these quads justice! Check it out the link below.
And finally, 28 Day Dream – I think this is for purple lovers especially. Again, the shimmers are super fine, which my camera can’t capture. The shades are all gorgeous. And they are all shimmer shades as well.
I love the swatches so much in included 2 photos here, at slightly different angles.
I was also able to swatch the Soleil Palette Winter 2018.
I think it’s quite a a nice palette (and I always collect them), but I’m trying to limit my makeup buying for now so I did not buy it.
Oh and here are more photos of the new Eye Quads I took at the Tom Ford counter.
Enjoy!
