Drunk Elephant Skincare: My holygrail life savers.
My complete Drunk Elephant collection! Actually I bought the Drunk Elephant Vault, but I will keep a bit of that for Part 2. But for now, let me rant on how these have become my holygrail skincare brand.
The founder of Drunk elephant "wanted something that didn't exist, so she created them herself" This motto is on the box of all the products, and I understand why.
All the products are free of irrating ingredients, perfume, and preservatives. The products will not have that lovely smell, but are true to the smell of the ingredients. This will ensure that users won't get a reaction.
Here's the statement from the drunk elephant website:
"D.E.’s mission is to deliver clinically-effective, clean skincare formulated with both cutting-edge synthetic and natural ingredients; and without the ubiquitous toxins, sensitizers and irritants, such as the disruptive essential oils, that block the pathway to healthy skin. We pay close attention to pH and toxicity levels, as well as formulating with efficacious percentages of active ingredients. Our goal is to teach the consumer that “natural” doesn’t automatically mean good and that every ingredient should directly and only benefit the health of our skin or the safety of the formulation. We shift the focus off of the consumer’s “sensitive” skin and on to the insensitive marketing ingredients that are responsible for the majority of our skin problems.
Unfortunately, today’s regulations allow companies in both categories to use harmful, toxic ingredients. And while Drunk Elephant aims for its products to be as natural as possible, it is far more important that the ingredients in them be effective and safe for your delicate dermis. Plenty of natural ingredients are oh-so-irritating, so we consistently formulate our cleansers, serums and oils with soothing, low-hazard ingredients — regardless of their natural or synthetic status.
Our product development team obsessively self-regulates and reviews every single precious ingredient to make sure it is the safest, most efficacious and most synergistic with the entire product line, while staying focused on internal and external health. So where does that leave Drunk Elephant? In a category of its own."
For those allergic to alcohol and alcohol in fragrances, this brand will solve your problems.
"Drunk Elephant products are fragrance-free and do not smell like anything other than what they are.
Other skincare lines use “natural alternatives” to scent their products. Things like essential oil blends, citrus peel extracts, and limonene may sound pretty and innocent, but they are known to cause allergic sensitivities that are cumulative and imperceptible. The irony here? They're often found in products marketed towards those with sensitive skin.
After carefully balancing the best ingredients available, we don’t have to add anything to mask their natural scents. When you smell our products, you will likely detect nothing but a glycerin base with slight hints of Marula oil, Zinc Oxide, Thermal Mud, Fruit Enzymes and Vitamins. It’s refreshing and reassuring. But don’t trust us, just trust your nose."
I started off with a few products and ended up getting the Vault.
At first I have the C-Firma Day Serum, B Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel, the Glycolic Night Serum, the Lala Retro Whipped Cream, The Peekee Bar, the Juju Bar, , the Beste No.0 Jelly Cleanser, and the new Protini Polypeptide Cream. [Isn’t that already the whole vault? Lol]
Below is the Vault I got. It’s the 2018 version.
OK let’s get down to reviews!
First up, the B Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel.
Brand’s description:
I use this every morning under makeup. The gel absorbs super fast, and leaves my skin looking full and hydrated. I no longer feel my skin has dried at the office anymore. The ingredients are pure, with no added fragrance (yay to me!) and its rated 5 stars on Paula’s Choice.
Next, the Lala Retro Whipped Cream.
Here's the brand's description: This whipped formulation contains an airy blend of six rare African oils to deliver and lock in intense moisture for hours after application. Plantain extract helps recover the feel of firmness and elasticity while visibly brightening skin. Sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer easily soaks in and releases long-lasting hydration. Antioxidant-rich fermented green tea combats signs of aging and relieves irritation from environmental stressors. Loaded with omega acids, Lala Retro™ is a silky, dream come true for dull, tired, dehydrated skin. This silicone-free moisturizer is completely non-sensitizing and non-irritating.
I use this cream when my skin feels really dry, as a night with this on my face really helps so much. The ingredients are pure, with no added fragrance (yay to me!) and its rated 5 stars on Paula’s Choice. However, it does have a weird smell, cause of the no fragrance added, so maybe you should try a sample before buying the whole tub.
Next, the Glycolic Night Serum. This is such an effective night treatment.
Brand's description : This high-tech gel resurfaces dull skin, gently lifting dead skin cells away by dissolving the glue that holds them to the surface. The results are greater clarity and a smoother, more even looking complexion. Formulated with our dream team AHA/BHA blend including Glycolic, Lactic, Tartaric, Citric and Salicylic acids and blended with raspberry extract, T.L.C. Framboos™ sinks in easily and delivers effective and precise chemical exfoliation without the harsh side effects like dryness or sensitization. Horse chestnut and white tea help to soothe. Fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration along with excess oiliness and pores will appear dramatically diminished. Go from a drab complexion to an absolutely luminous one, practically overnight!
I apply this as a serum and follow with a moisturizer/facial oil. Slight tingling might occur but it’ll go away in a bit. This is so so effective, my skin has become so bright and flawless. A colleague of mine has also tried it, and she’s also turned into an avert! She’s much older than me, and she says her skin looks so much younger and with less lines. The ingredients are pure, with no added fragrance (yay to me!) and its rated 5 stars on Paula’s Choice. I actually went through 3 bottles of this and continuing!
Next is the Protini Polypeptide Cream.
This is supposed to be a moisturizer to combat wrinkles, sun damage, and fine lines, just what I need at the moment!
Brand's description:
WHAT IT IS:
This breakthrough protein moisturizer combines an unprecedented array and concentration of signal peptides, growth factors, supportive amino acids and pygmy waterlily for visible and immediate improvement in the appearance of skin’s tone, texture and firmness.
WHAT IT IS FORMULATED TO DO:
Protini’s proprietary formula delivers younger, revived-looking skin, almost from the first application. Lines, wrinkles and signs of sun-damage appear reduced; depleted skin feels strengthened and moisturized.
WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Think of Protini™ in your Drunk Elephant skincare routine like adding a shot of protein to your smoothie. Abundant with proteins and nutrients, it replenishes and restores your skin back to a strong, healthy state
I have used this for several months and it has now become my holygrail night cream. Beats all other creams hands down. The day I came back from London, my skin was feeling super dry, and I slapped this on and went to sleep. And the next morning Oh my God my skin felt so moisturized like I never went to London! I have continued to use it for the rest of the week, and my skin is ow back to its healthy state.
I also love how the bottom is super hygienic. One pump is the exact right amount for my whole face. This vacuum style pump helps preserve the cream to its freshness and prevents dirt and bacteria from my fingers to contact the cream.
Next, is the C Firma Day Serum. This is another of their acid skincare, this one to be worn during the day. The formula will stay on for 72 hours and cannot be rubbed off. I use this once a week. I wont attempt to describe the benefits, just read the brand's claims below.
Brand's description:
WHAT IT IS FORMULATED TO DO:
This revolutionary serum, jam packed with a potent antioxidant complex of 15% l-ascorbic acid, 0.5% ferulic acid and 1% vitamin E, plus other formula-supportive enzymes and antioxidants helps neutralize pollution, environmental stressors and damaging free radicals while replenishing lipids and visibly reducing the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles. Uniquely formulated with pumpkin ferment and pomegranate extracts, C-Firma™ enzymatically dissolves dead surface skin cells for smoother texture. Sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer quickly penetrates skin and provides intense hydration. The result is a noticeably diminished appearance of photo damage, replaced by incredible radiance and luminosity.
WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW:
C-Firma™ has a reservoir effect, which means it will stay active on skin for up to 72 hours and cannot be washed or rubbed off. C-Firma™ has a pH level of 3.3 - 3.5, which Drunk Elephant believes is the key to a non-irritating, effective formulation that delivers real results.
I have not used this serum as often as I should have. The serum is orange but the color doesn’t show up once applied. Once it is on my skin, my face feels pretty tight, like the serum is sealing itself on my skin.
Next is the Juju and the Pekee bar. The Juju bar is the brownish one and the Pekee bar is the white.
Juju Bar:
WHAT IT IS:
An ultra-mild, 3-in-1 bar that deeply cleanses, subtly exfoliates and detoxifies for a complexion that is soft and smooth.
WHAT IT IS FORMULATED TO DO:
This multi-tasking bar is designed to effectively cleanse while gently removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Our unique formulation of thermal mud and bamboo powder creates a wonderful creamy lather that dissolves unwanted oil, rinsing away pore-clogging surface debris and any impurities. It refines skin texture, brightens skin clarity, and over time, helps minimizes the look of pores. The Juju Bar™ is totally fragrance and soap-free and formulated with skin-friendly ingredients designed to calm and feed the skin while promoting moisture retention. Unlike soap, which has a pH level of 9 or above, the Juju Bar’s ideal pH-level of 6.34 ensures sufficient cleansing without drying or stripping the skin of its protective barrier.
This is my only face soap I have (apart from the Pekee Bar). I usually use liquid soaps, but i gave this one an exception. The benefits are too huge to pass!
Next is the Pekee Bar:
WHAT IT IS:
A gentle, multi-tasking bar that cleanses, tones and moisturizes leaving the complexion perfectly balanced, soft and supple.
WHAT IT IS FORMULATED TO DO:
In a league of its own, The Pekee Bar™ clarifies, balances and moisturizes, while rinsing away pore-clogging surface debris, impurities and excess oil. Infused with a blend of blueberry extract, marula oil and honey, The Pekee Bar™ tones and promotes moisture retention, while improving the feel of elasticity and firmness. The Pekee Bar™ is totally fragrance- and soap-free and formulated with only skin-friendly ingredients designed to cleanse and calm the skin. Unlike soap, which has a pH level of 9 or above, Pekee has an ideal pH level of 6.51, ensuring sufficient cleansing without drying or stripping the skin of its protective barrier.
Again, this is similar to the Juju bar, but I use this when my skin is feeling a bit damaged and I don't want to exfoliate.
So that is it everyone! I will review more of the Drunk Elephant vault in part 2. I'm really looking forward to trying the Sakuri Baby Facia and the Shaba Eye Complex!
