Reviews and Swatches of my Surratt Beauty Collection
This blog is a roundup of all my Surratt Beauty items. I have written blogs on some specific products before, but this blogpost will compile them all.
To be honest I’m not sure how I came to know Surratt Beauty. But I think it was the similarity with Addiction By Ayako (Japanese brand) that drew my attention to it. Surratt products have a very Japanese feel. They are customizable and can all be put into palettes.
This was their brand intoduction:
Surratt Beauty is a visionary collection designed by top New York city make-up artist Troy Surratt. Fueled by his passion for beauty, Troy has created a line of artistic products that enable you to express your individuality and make a lasting impression. His customizable approach allows you to explore endless possibilities. Utilizing mesmeric colors and sumptuous formulas, Troy had devoted nearly a decade to develop and realize his eponymous line
- A dream come true.
I wrote about my first products haul in the blog below, so you can check that out as well.
OK first up I will go over the Lip products first, leaving the best bits last.
First up are the Lip Lustres, below is the official description.
Give lips an intense, high gloss shine with a lip product built to last, thanks to Surratt Lip Lustre. Available in a wide range of shades and colours, this lip gloss features a flocked silicone applicator tip for precisely depositing colour and achieving a painterly effect.
Founded by Troy Surratt, the former protégé of Kevyn Aucoin, Surratt is dedicated to bringing colour and sophistication to everyday makeup, and Surratt Lip Lustre lip gloss is no different. The rich, vivid pigments add an intense pop of colour without drying out the lips.
The creamy, sheer formula glides on smoothly and keeps lips hydrated without leaving behind any stickiness. This gloss is available in high shine as well as shimmer finishes.
Key Benefits:
Available in a wide range of shades
Non-sticky, long-lasting formula
Keeps lips hydrated
Can be layered for a more intense finish
Features a custom-designed, silicone-flocked spatula for easy application
These are all SOOOO pretty. The color of the gloss itself doesn’t show up at all, but the shimmers work great as lip toppers or to be worn alone. These aren’t as flashy as the Huda Lip Strobes or the Becca Crystal Glow glosses, these are much more subtle and I can even wear them to the office. One thing to warn you though, these are quite sticky, so those who don’t like sticky-ness, stay away!
I have 6 shades, they are all clear with glitter.
Je Ne Sais Quoi Is a blingy blue/ soft pink shift. To me, It’s like a clear gloss with blue and pink shimmers.
Faux Pas is a glinty mint. To me, it’s a clear gloss with micro shimmers.
Etiole (clear with golden sparkles
Viola! Is an opulent opal. To me, it’s like a clear peach gloss withpink and gold pearl.
Oh La La is a twinkling pink. To me, it’s like a clear pink gloss with sparkles.
Amethyst (clear with blue and violet sparkles)
I also wrote a previous blog on these, bith closeups of each shade, so if you’re interested you can check it out.
Next are some stuff I have written before, but didn’t swatch. Below is the original post.
First up are the lip products!
First are the Prismatique Lips in shades Diamantee and Haute Monde.
Official description:
Create a metallic, magnetic look with a lip tint that harnesses Japanese prismatic pigments to produce a magical effect with Surratt Prismatique Lips, which glides on effortlessly for multidimensional results.
Once again inspired by the beauty scene of Japan, celebrity makeup artist Troy Surratt has created a lip tint that can be used alone for a wash of metallic colour or layered on top of lipstick to highlight and create a customised, shade-shifting look.
Available in a wide range of eye-popping colours, Surratt Prismatique Lips is made with an innovative formula that suspends shimmering pigments in a moisture-rich colour that leaves lips feeling soft and hydrated.
Key Benefits:
Applicator has an angled bullet tip for easy, precise application
Features a moisturising formula for soft lips
Use alone for a sheer shimmer or with lipstick for more drama
Prismatic pigments refract light for glimmer and glow
No sticky residue
Formulated without parabens, sulphates or phthalates
I think Diamantee is best used as a topper, while Haute Monde can be worn alone. It has enough tint to cover up my natural lip color, and it shows a lot of the glitter seen in the tube. This shade is for fun days.
Next up is the Lipslique in shade Pom Pon and Rubis
Official description: Get a natural-but-better look with Surratt Lipslique, a lipstick that’s not quite a lipstick and not quite a lip gloss. This innovative, lightweight cream formula is designed to glide on smoothly and leave behind a sheer to semi-opaque finish that looks and feels natural.
Surratt Lipslique is ideal for occasions when lips need an extra shot of confidence or colour, but the drama of a full pout or a high gloss isn’t necessary. It provides the simple, refined elegance that inspired celebrity makeup artist Troy Surratt to launch his eponymous brand.
Available in a range of colours, this twist-up lipstick features an applicator that does not retract, so it only dispenses the necessary amount of product needed each time.
Key Benefits:
Features a twist-up only applicator that does not retract
Leaves behind a long-lasting colour-rich effect
Lips look plumper and softer
Helps to keep the lips soft and hydrated
Buildable from sheer to semi-opaque
Easy to apply
The lipslique in my opinion is like a hybrid between a cream and a sheer lipstick. The brand calls it “a lipstick that’s not quite a lipstick and not quite a lip gloss”. I don’t think its as watery as a lip gloss yet, and it’s not that transparent either. It has enough pigmentation if you apply it multiple layers.
Automatique Lip Crayon in shade Gentillesse.
Official description: Give lips a hit of rich, intense colour without drying them out with Surratt Automatique Lip Crayon, a hydrating twist-up lip pencil that features slim, minimalistic packaging for space-saving portability.
Created by Troy Surratt, makeup artist to the stars and former apprentice to Kevyn Aucoin, this lip pencil provides lips with high-intensity colour and staying power as well as hydration.
This lip pencil glides on smoothly for a matte finish, and its luxurious suede-like texture leaves lips with a balmy, comfortable feel. Available in a range of rich colour shades, Suratt Automatique Lip Crayon is easily buildable from a sheer satin finish to something much more dramatic.
Key Benefits:
Shaped into a point for precision application
Twist-up design makes a sharpener unnecessary
Lightweight formula feels soft and balmy on the lips
Available in a wide range of colours for every skin type, tone and occasion
Colour-rich, matte finish
Recyclable packaging
The lip crayon is really easy to apply and is not too matte. It’s more velvety. I like how they described it as luxurious suede-like texture leaves lips with a balmy, comfortable feel”. Yes I guess it really is suede like. It’s very light once applied and very comfortable on the lips.
Below are swatches of all 5 items.
Prismatique Lips in shades Diamantee and Haute Monde, Lipslique in shade Pom Pon and Rubis, and Automatique Lip Crayon in shade Gentillesse.
OK we are now done with the Lip products! And moving on to the best products of the brand, in my opinion. Eyeshadows and blushes.
The Artistique Eye Shadows!
First of all the eyeshadows are sold as singles and has its own compact and all. You do not need to buy a separate palette if you don’t want to. However, they are quite small and may get lost among all your other makeup stuff ( I lost one shade and still couldn’t find it till this day, I used to have 5 shades).
The texture is buttery and applies beautifully. The shimmers are very fine, much like Japanese branded eyeshadows. However, I feel like they had a tad less shimmer than the typical Japanese shimmery eyeshadows, which is fine with me.
Here’s the official description:
For eyes that will turn heads, try Surratt Artistique Eyeshadow, an innovative soft eyeshadow from celebrity makeup artist Troy Surratt designed to be used dry for a subtle sheen or applied wet for something much more dramatic.
Surratt Artistique Eyeshadow is made using the Japanese ‘slurry’ method for an easily blended formula and smoother application. This makes it ideal for building layers from a subtle, soft wash of colour to a vibrant, hyper-intense finish.
Available in a wide range of colours, Surratt Artistique Eyeshadow comes in a range of finishes, including matte, satin and shimmer. This finely milled eyeshadow is incredibly versatile for creating numerous makeup looks and effects.
Key Benefits:
Created using the Japanese ‘slurry’ method for an easily blended, buildable formula
Finely milled eyeshadow for easy application
Apply dry for a subtle wash of pigment
Apply wet for a more colour-intense finish
Custom tooled cases can be recycled after use
I bought a 2x2 palette which fits 4 eyeshadows, or 2 blushes, or two eyeshadows plus one blush.
Below are shots of individual shades.
Swatches of all the shades below! See the subtleness? They are so fine and blend beautifully. This is truly the beauty of Japanese style eyeshadows.
Here’s a closeup. See how fine the shimmers are? See? See?
Nextttttttt, the blushes!
Artistique Blush
Official description: Get that coveted lit-from-within glow with Surratt Artistique Blush, a finely milled blush from makeup artist to the stars and former Kevyn Aucoin apprentice Troy Surratt.
Formulated using the unique Japanese ‘slurry’ method, Surratt Artistique Blush is easily blended, allowing for buildable, easy application. This lightweight blush can also be dusted onto the skin to create a soft-focus glow on the cheeks.
Available in a wide range of warm and cool-toned shades, Surratt Artistique Blush features a satin finish and can be used to achieve many different effects, whether that is a pop of vibrant colour or a subtle, natural flush to the skin.
Key Benefits:
Available in a wide range of shades
Perfect for achieving a blended, buildable look
Smooth, lightweight texture
Satin finish
Creates a soft-focus glow
Made of finely milled pigments
Recyclable minimalist packaging inspired by Japanese elegance
The last two shades may seem dark in the pan, but they really are quite sheer. I think the “easily blended, allowing for buildable, easy application. This lightweight blush can also be dusted onto the skin to create a soft-focus glow on the cheeks” part is very accurate. Wait till you see the swatches below.
OK first are the individual shots of each shade.
And the most important part! The swatches! As I’m quite tanned these days the lighter shades barely show up on my arm. As for the darker shades, you can see they are actually not dark and gave a really pretty flush.
More closeup swatches. La Rosee Du Soir just disappeared into my skin color. This shade is for the palest gals only.
So that is it for the blushes! Hope you find some love for them.
